i have a linnie. but i want another bird. i want something a bit bigger than the linnie but not too big how big do hahn's macaws get and how much do they go for in canada? or even another type of bird will be fine. my price range is about 200 - 350$. please help and i don't want a budgie or a cockatiel. and i am not interested in purchasing at the pet store but i want to buy at the breeder. so please do not give me pet store prices.Need some advice on letting my parents let me get another bird?
Whoa whoa whoa, the person who recommended a cockatoo, uh no, horrible recommendation!

For a larger bird, the cage alone will cost you 200-350$ (American, in Canadian dollars, you'll be spending in upwards of of 400-500$). This is because a larger bird, of course, needs a much larger cage! Now factor in the cost of toys (at least a dozen to start out, so you can rotate them), and that is another 100$. Now add in perches, pellets (high quality like harrisons), veterinary care...well, you get the idea. You should have all the supplies before you actually get the bird. And think of maintinance. A hans macaw will go through toys like no tomorrow.

That said, I'd suggest a conure species. Those in the genus Aratinga, like the sun conure, are noisier than say, a Pyrrhura species like the green cheek. All conures are the delightful clowns of the bird world. Some are rather large, like the blue crown conure (they can rival a mini macaw in size). Don't let size fool you though, for being small, they are excellent.

As always, do a TON of research. Lay your hands on books, join a few forums. Below is a great forum for people who already have a bird, or are looking for advise regarding one. Also, for an example, below is the cage my solo sun conure lives in. That is in American dollars, you do the conversion. Please buy your bird something larger than the minimum cage size, they'll be miserable cramped up, since they are very active birds.Need some advice on letting my parents let me get another bird?
Im not sure the price but you should get a cockatoo. they learn words very quickly but some are more than your budget. they may be pricy but they are extremely affectionate =]

if you want to stay in your price range, get a toucan.

tell your parents that you have enough responsibility to get another bird. say that you will clean the cage and purchase everything yourself and it will be like you dont even have one.
well, i would highly recommend You get a Quacker parrot. they are bigger than your linnie, but not much bigger. They are extremely smart and can say words, sing actual songs, and make noises. they are so smart that they can open there cages. I think that the Hahn's macaw is a little out of your price range and if your parents don't want u to get another bird this is not the right bird. they like to make loud noises and CANT be taught to be quiet, they just get quieter with age.

Where can u get one? Once again i would highly recommend Beaksandpaws.net. they are a breeder in texas who i bought my second quacker parrot from. They only charged $150 (US) for the bird and $135 (depending on airport) to fly it to me and i got it the next day. but if you don't want the parrot i recommended, they have other birds to choose form, and if they don't have the bird in stock that u want they will put you on a waiting list to make sure you get one of the new babies.

to persuade your parents, have the bird picked out, and take to the breeder about prices. have all the arrangements made, and tell them you will buy all the toys, food, and clean up after them. if they say no don't loose hope, get on there good side and ask like a month later.

hope this helps!!!
