Can I get some advice? I am a desperate soul?

My hair is baby fine and straight as a board! I can spend 2 hours curling it and it will be gorgeous for maybe an hour, then I look like I didn't spend any time at all even combing it. I am mid 30's and am SICK of my hair. I don't want a perm, and some colors will give it some body and texture but not what I need. I have tried it all, all the new fangled hair products and they only make me look like I haven't washed my hair in 3 weeks. Is there anyone who can help me with my lifelong agony? ThanksCan I get some advice? I am a desperate soul?
I've found the best thing for baby fine and straight hair is a good cut and the use of volumizing shampoo and, particularly, volumizing hair spray.

If the hair is cut mostly blunt (because there isn't enough of it to do much in terms of laying), but if some of it in the front is tapered up toward the upper part of your face it can create a little more fullness because the shorter pieces aren't weighed down. The tapering lets the hair still be a ';unit'; (non-gradually layered hair

interrupts the ';unity'; of the hairs) while letting the shorter parts give a little lift.

The VO5 Spa volumizing shampoo (about a dollar) isn't bad. The more expensive Pantene volumizing is good too. They don't work miracles but they help the fine hair from getting yet more ridiculously soft and fine-feeling.

The Pantene or Dove volumizing hair-sprays (particularly the aerosol-type rather than the pump type) do help some as well. I use these to kind of spray on some body, but then I also use the Pantene volumizing pump spray for hold.

If you're willing to spend two hours curling the hair maybe you'd be willing to use a curling iron with some extra steps to help hold the curls: First, go around the head once with the curling iron in order to ';get the straight out';. You don't have to be fussy about the curls. Just make sure you ';get the straight out'; of all the hair. Let it cool (takes a couple of minutes). Go around the head again, but the second time is the ';real'; time. Use a styling product that can be used with an iron (particularly one that is heat-activated).

After the curls are done you can do whatever you prefer - gently comb without pulling them out and spraying them (gluing them) in place or else gentle combing them out so they're not no longer tight but so they're still pretty curly and then spraying (or really spraying and gluing, depending on how much spray you can stand or want) - or else you can brush them all out so you're hair is just kind of wavy and fluffier (and spraying lightly).

If you just want to go with the good cut and no curls you can flip your head upside down, comb or brush it so absolutely every hair gets separated, and throw it back. Then comb it into place and spray. That helps.

I hate to say it, but my sister and I have the baby fine hair problem; and there isn't much you can do beyond a good cute or using enough product to keep the curls in. I've had some version of the same cut (in varying lengths between just above chin-length to just above shoulder length) for most of my life. If you have a cut that does the most for the hair and wash it daily to keep it fluffier combing it frequently and using nothing but hairspray may be as good as you can get it.

I'm convinced that the best thing you can do for baby fine hair is not add things like perms and color treatments because this type of hair gets burned/damaged really easily, and then you get that wispy hay some people have.

I've found that occasionally if I use half (or less) the recommended ';dose'; of conditioner on my hair it kind of helps; but care must be taken not to use a normal amount or it will be a disaster.

I once had a hairdresser who knew exactly how to cut it and exactly what type of conditioner to use to make it have some weight and kind of swing like shampoo-ad hair; but many hairdressers just don't really know what to do with it either!! Some even kind of ';yell'; and say they can't do much with it (when I've actually gotten better results myself).

If you have the face and personality for it, a short haircut eliminates a lot of problems that longer fine hair presents If you have the face and personality for it you go go with blunt cut but long enough to rely on ponytails and up-do's most of the time.

Bear in mind that heavy bangs use up precious hair that could better be left long and contributing to the volume of the hair down the sides.

Keep the ends trimmed frequently because it doesn't take much to make fine hair look skimpier if the ends need trimming.

Have you tried using just a light touch with some setting gel and sleeping on soft curlers overnight?

Other than keeping a comb (made of Nylon or something else that's really smooth so it won't damage the hair or leave rake marks on your scalp) and a small hair-spray with you at all times, there may not be much more you can do (other than the good cut).

As I write this, Calista Flockhart is on television. She has baby fine hair; her method to deal with it seems to be having it long. Not everyone has the age or face or personality for hair that long.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I comb my hair before I enter any building. I'm always finding a corner to hide in and comb my hair before I enter a building; because if I don't I'll look like some kind of freak

I've given you all the tips I have that have made my hair as reasonable as its ever going to be.

I really think if you could find an super-skilled hair stylist he/she may know how to cut the hair and exactly what products to use that would accomplish what you want. The trouble is that type of hairstylist is often not easy to find if you don't live in a large, up-and-coming, city. Can I get some advice? I am a desperate soul?
you should love what you have, don't worry too much, be happy, if you like you can perm at the bottom only and tie it, look beautiful on you, try it
use pantene mousse extra volume

or from the salon

get hair paste it works well
baby fine hair is really hard to curl, they only last for a couple of hours. You need to put mousse or styling gel to hold the curls or even hairspray will work but this will make your hair look unnatural.I see that you don't want to have a perm but a good perm from a good stylist is the only solution.Try to see if you really want your hair that straight and have problems or have it perm,it still your choice
us the smallest curling iron like the size of a pinky. it will curly real curly and then don't brush it just use your fingers to style. spray it with hair spray and go. i don't know why but the smaller the curls are the longer they will stay in your hair.
to give you some volume the secret is to tease it. There is a great product from Big sexy hair called 'back comb in a bottle' it works wonders! It holds the tease very well and will not make your hair look greasy. You can also use a round brush while blow drying your hair.
massage your hair with almond oil.
