Talk with his doctor asap. They will have his blood lab results before he starts treatments, and can see how serious a risk you may/or may not be. Double check with the nurses in the treatment room if you get that far.
Wash your hand frequently and use a moisturizer so they don't get cracked, keep the kitchen and bathroom clean, change towels daily and sheets frequently. But it sounds as though you know about keeping a clean environment.GAH! My patner starts chemotherapy on friday first thing in the morning and i get a cold??? advice?
that's a hard question. if its his first time, he will be busy dealing with side effects, and won't even notice you. If you have a cold, wash your face, hands, and eye-glasses often. this is because a persons facial area is touched more than any other. If you don't wear glasses, do the same things with your face and hands. Use some sort of disinfectant on things like the phone, pc, keyboard -- ANYTHING the both of you touch. oh, and make sure you use anti-bacterial soap. you can be in the same house as him, just not NEAR him.. If you ARE near him, wash everything both of you touch -- for clothes, use hot water, but don't mix colors with white clothes, the colors will transfer to the white, and it will look ugly.
On the other hand, your partner may be doing a lot of vomiting, have nausea, and no interest in food, so he may not even think twice about you. You just ask the oncologist what to do. He will definitely know.
Good luck
