A cat with swollen ear.Any advice as to care for him til I get him to the vet? ?

I have a black cat with a swollen ear. I think it happened when he was playing with on of the Kitten. Is theresomeonee who can give advice as to how to heal it. I will be taking him to the vet, but I thought til I can get him there, Is there anything I can do to take the swelling down.God Bless.A cat with swollen ear.Any advice as to care for him til I get him to the vet? ?
I had this happen to one of my cats a few years ago, but it was on his head. Turned out, he had gotten in a fight with another cat, and a claw fragment got stuck in his head and formed an abscess. Maybe little kitty's claw got stuck on his ear and he hasn't been able to get it out, but a vet will tell you for sure. If this is the case, there's nothing you can do for him until he gets to vet, or you'll run the risk of hurting him more. Hope he gets better.A cat with swollen ear.Any advice as to care for him til I get him to the vet? ?

first off - dang Percy-and-Penny, shouldn't you be answering the question instead of complaining about it? who put you in a bad mood!?

now for the question, there's not too much you can do. normally people bring down swelling with ice, but cats ears are too sensitive for that. when he feels the bag of ice he'll twitch his ear and walk away. the only thing you can really do is keep an eye on him. make sure its nothing serious, you can tell if it's serious if he changes his behavior. for example he might eat less, or he might bathe more, or he might drink water more. keep an eye out for stuff like that, and give him some attention. that's really all you can do until he's at the vets office. good luck.
You may what to go to a healthfood store and see if there are any herbal products that can be used. First you must locate the site of a wound or infection, then you can treat it. You can clean it with peroxide and a cotton ball or q-tip. I personally would use goldenseal as it is a great product for healing humans...I don't know how it works on cats though. Do a little searching on the web for herbal remedies for cats, you might have to dig a bit because there are lots of companies out there trying to sell their products. Calendula is an herb that I've heard very good things about and it is usually available in healthfood stores, it also is an active ingredient in some of the online products. Let me know how it goes... Ok?
';Till you can get him there';? What is your excuse for waiting? He obviously needs a vet NOW so get off your computer and get him there.

Really getting tired of all these ';other than going to the vet'; questions. Why do you people have pets if you deny them vet care when you need it? And what's the point of coming online and asking this? Are you just looking for that one idiot to say ';Oh don't worry it should be fine.'; just to justify not taking him to the vet???? Geezus.
