I am a 32 year old independent white woman my husband is a 50 year old Black republican man.
Lynn Jenkins and her ';White Hope'; statement did not win any cool points with new black republican voters
Any advice for Black Republicans who experience racism from White Republicans?Black Republicans who get racism from White Republicans-Advice?
I did not take it personally because I do not believe she meant it as a racist statement. I have thick skin. I have heard some pretty racist terms coming from black people as well, so I just don't take anything personally unless they direct comments directly at me.Black Republicans who get racism from White Republicans-Advice?
Yes I have some advice. Don't assume that common every day sayings are racist.
Yes, the Great White Hope was very poorly chosen wording, but it's a common saying, based on a boxing play. Today it's analogous to a David vs. Goliath scenario.
Similar to this are the fact that a white DC staffer was fired for using the word ';Niggardly';, which YA will almost certainly block, so I'll misspell it here as ';N1ggardly.'; The word means miserly.
Then there was the Dallas County supervisors meeting where two black officials at the meeting took offense because a white supervisor said a certain office had become a ';black hole'; because it kept losing records. One said it should be a ';white hole'; while the other demanded an apology. The white supervisor had to explain that it was a scientific term.
Jenkins meant nothing racial by her comment- it is no different than talking about a white knight... people put racial connotations on it because it serves their purpose but when people make those comments that have no racial intentions at all.
Great White Hope = underdog who can achieve victory over a dominant champ... simple as that. It's original meaning in regards to a white fighter who could take out the black champ has long ago become insignificant in the use of this phrase.
People say a lot of stupid things...look at Barrack Obama. ';Typical white folk';, etc. I am going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say it was not intentionally meant to come off as racist as it did. There too, she was referring to a boxer once called, 'the Great White Hope,' who came out of nowhere and truly raised to glory.
As far as racism against black Repubs from white Repubs, is this happening to your husband personally? Like, are people harrassing him to his face? I can't imagine that, but it takes all kinds.
If it were me, as a middle aged white woman who is never married, I run across a lot of that myself. Not from a political point of view, but from a social point of view. The best he can do is grin, correct them politely, and move on. Over time, they will eventually get it. I would hope.
Why does your husband get discriminated against? You didn't say anything about him getting discriminated against. All you heard was one statement and now you think there's a lynch mob after him.
Oh yeah and what are you doing with someone 18 years older than you? that's just weird and kinda gross, he was basically 18 when you were born... *shundders*
Yes. Remember they're only human, and stand firm on your values and beliefs, not theirs. Supporting party line politics gets us into the same kind of trash talking that we have here on YA. This is not a serious political debate site, it's an arms race of words and instigators that like to get it started. If you are the reflective and introspective type, you have already came to the answers about what you believe and why you believe it, and no one on this site can change your mind.
';Beverly B.'; I know what the B stands for lol. Now to answer the question.Tell your husband that Repubs don't want blacks in their precious party. He is only a token and will always be used as one. I am not saying that Demo are not racist either.I am just saying that he should be prepared to take some negative froms whites for just being black and married to you.Repubs see him an an uppidy negro.I beleive that it is his life and he can do as he pleases. lol. Black female here.
Ignore it as most of it is not from the GOP but rather the Dems/liberals spinning and twisting words.....funny how when a Dem does it it is glossed over or ignored or forgiven or excuses made for it.....so because it is NOT racism as you think...let him speak directly for himself and stay out of it
Racists exist in both parties, black people constantly have to deal with white privilege, condescension and unconscious rejection. It's a travesty, and it's base and stupid, but it has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats.
Most racism in the last election cycle was directed at Obama from Hillary's supporters. Just like most sexism has been from Democrats towards Sarah Palin.
The Left needs to look at the hate amoung themselves and stop kidding themselves that they don't have a problem.
Jenkins' use of the word white isn't necessarily racist. White is a color, not necessarily a race, her choice of words could have meant bright, clean, etc...
1. Get many weapons and explosives.
2. Get organized with other people of your own background.
3. Have many children and teach them about weapons and explosives.
The one thing that matters in life is to be on the winning side.
This sounds like a set up, because I鈥檒l bet that he gets way more flack from black liberals. I do know some bone heads (whites) who are in my party, but they are McCain supporters.
Edit: i am a republican.
1) Join the Libertarian party. They are more intellectually honest and can use all the help they can get.
2) Write to them and complain.
3) Ignore them.
It's all in your head. If you think republicans are racist, you're just as stupid as the liberals who taught you to think that way.
That was just another statement taken out of context and exploited by the truly racist liberals.
Yep stay with your own.
get over it?
Vote them out.
EDIT: Liberal @sslicker
What are you talking about, ';Great White Hope';, how could that not be a racial comment?
